Guiami is the official advice and reporting center for domestic violence, child abuse and elder abuse on Bonaire. It is an initiative of the public entity Samenleving & Zorg (Openbaar Lichaam Bonaire), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport, and works closely with local care and safety partners.
We had the privilege of designing and developing a multilingual website for Meldpunt Guiami. The goal was to create a clear, accessible platform that helps residents recognize violence, find support and report concerns quickly — in Papiamentu, Dutch and English.
From prominent emergency contact numbers to carefully structured information on domestic violence, child abuse and elder abuse, every aspect of the site was built to foster trust and make help easy to find, with a calm, professional look and a fully responsive design across all devices.
Working from Bonaire, we treated this as more than a visual refresh. Visitors may arrive in a stressful moment, so the website had to load quickly, feel calm and make the next step obvious: call the hotline, start a conversation or read about the type of violence they recognize. That is the kind of website design Bonaire organisations need when the site itself is part of a public service.
The multilingual setup was essential. Residents use Papiamentu, Dutch and English in daily life, and a reporting center only works if people can use it in their own language. We built language switching into the navigation and kept headings, calls to action and emergency numbers consistent across all three versions, so nobody has to guess where to find help.
Practical safety and contact features sit at the centre of the experience. The hotline 0802–0802 stays visible, there is a clear path to report a concern, and a close-the-website option helps visitors leave the page quickly if they need to. Campaign pages and background information on domestic violence, child abuse and elder abuse sit alongside that urgent contact layer, so the site works both for immediate reports and for people who first want to understand the signs.
The result is a website design on Bonaire that supports Guiami’s public role: trustworthy, accessible and easy to use on phone, tablet and desktop. For k-Dushi, this project shows how local website design Bonaire can serve the community — not only businesses, but also essential services that residents need to find without friction.
